Council of Management

The Council of Management serves as the governing body of the International Orthoptic Association, responsible for setting the strategic direction, overseeing operations, and ensuring that the IOA's mission and goals are achieved.

The Council is comprised of representatives from member national orthoptic associations, ensuring broad and diverse input from around the globe. Each Council member is appointed by their national association and plays a pivotal role in representing their country’s orthoptic community, bringing regional perspectives and expertise to the IOA.

The Council of Management oversees the following areas:

  • Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing plans that align with the IOA's vision and objectives.

  • Governance and Accountability: Upholding transparency, integrity, and ethical practices across all IOA activities.

  • International Collaboration: Fostering partnerships with global organizations and strengthening connections within the orthoptic and ophthalmologic fields.

  • Program Oversight: Monitoring the progress and impact of key programs, including education, research, and professional development initiatives.

The Council meets regularly to review progress, address emerging challenges, and discuss opportunities for growth. By working together, Council members ensure that the IOA remains a strong, unified voice for orthoptics worldwide, advancing the profession and enhancing patient care on a global scale.

The Council of Management can delegate some of its duties to Committees or Networks consisting of members of the Association.

One Council Member is elected by the Council of Management to serve a two-year term as the Deputy President. The IOA Deputy President will step in and serve if the President is unable to complete required duties.
