Introduction
The International Orthoptic Association (IOA) is proud to present the first official version of the Scope of Practice for orthoptists. Developed through global collaboration, this document provides a clear framework for understanding the professional roles, responsibilities, and expertise of orthoptists worldwide.
What the Document Covers
The Scope of Practice addresses three key areas:
- Orthoptic Practice: Outlining where and how orthoptists deliver care.
- Key Areas of Expertise: Highlighting core competencies in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Extended Scope of Practice: Defining advanced roles as healthcare systems evolve.
Access and Launch
The full document will be officially launched at the International Orthoptic Congress (IOC) in Brisbane, June 25–27, 2025. IOA members can access the document in the members-only section of the website prior to its release.
