Daisy Godts honored with the 2025 Stephenson Honorary Fellow Award

The IOA is proud to announce that Daisy Godts has been awarded the prestigious Stephenson Honorary Fellow Award (SFHA) at the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on February 1st. This award recognizes exceptional contributions to orthoptics, and Daisy’s remarkable career exemplifies the values of leadership, research, education, and humanitarian service.

With over 40 years of dedication to the profession, Daisy has played a key role in advancing orthoptics on a global scale. She has led the Belgian Orthoptic Association (ABO-BOV) in various capacities, including President, Treasurer, and IOA Representative since 1990. Her active engagement in the IOA, including organizing the 2008 IOA Congress in Antwerp, has left a lasting impact on the international orthoptic community.

Beyond being a leader, Daisy is an accomplished researcher whose work has influenced clinical practice worldwide. As an educator, she has trained and mentored orthoptists in her own country and in so many countries in the world, shaping the next generation of eye care professionals.

Daisy’s humanitarian efforts further highlight her commitment to global eye care. Through volunteer missions in Africa, India, and the Dominican Republic, she has not only provided essential patient care but has also trained local professionals, ensuring long-term improvements in vision care accessibility.

In accepting the award, Daisy expressed her gratitude, stating:
“It is an incredible honor to receive this recognition from my peers. Orthoptics has been my lifelong passion, and I am proud to have contributed to its advancement worldwide. I share this award with all my colleagues and students who continue to push our field forward.”
